California Coalitions Chair
Gayle Pacheco was appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to serve on the California Workforce Investment Board in 2004. The Board is responsible for administering federal funding for employment and job training programs. In 2005, the Governor also asked Gayle to serve on the Governor’s Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities where she serves as Vice-Chair. She is concurrently serving her second term as an appointee to the State Rehabilitation Council.
Prior to her appointments, Gayle was an elected member of the Mt. San Antonio College Board of Trustees. Mt. SAC is the largest single-campus community college in the state with an annual budget in excess of $102 million. In 2003, she sought election to the California State Assembly. She did not seek re-election and completed her term as President of the Governing Board in December 2003.
Gayle, an attorney, is the president and owner of Western Hardware Company, which manufactures and distributes truck, trailer and industrial hardware. The company continues to thrive despite recent economic slowdowns with annual sales exceeding $2 million. She works diligently on helping other manufacturers find ways to continue building their businesses. She is keenly aware of the hardships facing the steel and forging industries, especially in light of foreign competition and currency market issues. She is a member of the Association of Women in the Metal Industries, National Association of Women Business Owners and the National Association of Female Executives.
An active community member, Gayle serves on the Walnut Valley Unified School District Personnel Commission. The Commission is responsible for maintaining the District's merit system for classified employees and fostering the advancement of their career services. Gayle was first appointed in 1998 and has served four consecutive terms.
In addition to her work on the Personnel Commission, Gayle is the president and co-founder of the Walnut Valley Educational Foundation and has been instrumental in helping raise over $1 million to fund student, staff and certificated scholarships and information technology projects throughout the Walnut Valley Unified School District.
Gayle is a lifelong Republican. In 2004, she served as Los Angeles Regional Chair for the Bush-Cheney campaign. Last year she also served as Statewide Chair for Coalitions for Senator John McCain’s presidential bid. She is the founder of the Four Corners Chapter of the California Women’s Leadership Association and is the current chapter president. She is also active in a number of Republican Women Federated clubs.
Gayle is married to former Assemblymember Bob Pacheco. Together they have five children: Anita, Rob, Michael, David and Cristina. The family attends St. Lorenzo Catholic Church in Walnut, where Gayle has been the Children’s Choir Director for the last 21 years. She has also served as an elected member of the Parish Advisory Committee.
