Focusing Health Care
“While our nation’s health care system is in need of reform, the legislation passed today is an example of the ‘cure’ being worse than the disease. It is a patchwork of Washington insider deals, and it will cost California taxpayers millions, if not billions, of dollars we cannot afford…[Instead,] let’s take a step back and fix specific problems with specific solutions that have bipartisan support.” – Carly Fiorina
Carly believes strongly that every American should have access to quality, affordable health care. Through her own experiences, she has seen both the good and the bad of our nation’s health care system, and it has given her a very keen perspective on what we can do to better connect doctors and increase quality, while also lowering costs.
In particular, Carly believes it’s essential that decisions about care stay in the hands of patients, their families and their doctors. To improve quality while also lowering costs, Washington should focus on passing bipartisan reforms that are known to be effective, such as encouraging competition in the health insurance market, cracking down on frivolous lawsuits and ensuring no one is denied coverage because of a pre-existing condition.
Instead, Democrats forced through a health care overhaul plan that will cost taxpayers at least $940 billion over 10 years in the form of higher premiums, increased taxes and more government spending. The legislation signed into law by President Obama does not focus on patients or on quality care, which is why Carly has pledged to help repeal it and replace it with true reform that lowers costs and improves quality without growing government.
