Carly Fiorina Issues Statement on California Unemployment Rate
July 16, 2010

SACRAMENTO, CA - U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina today issued the following statement regarding the report released by the California Employment Development Department this morning showing that 27,600 Californians lost their jobs last month, while the private sector added only 1,300 jobs:

“The news today that 27,600 Californians lost their jobs and private-sector job growth remained extremely weak last month underscores the fact that big-government policies that depend on temporary, taxpayer-funded government jobs will not provide the foundation of growth we need in order to experience a true economic recovery. Still, Barbara Boxer and her fellow Democrats in Congress continue to press for the budget-busting entitlements, job-killing regulations and higher taxes that drive jobs out of state. As a result, 2.24 million Californians remain unemployed today, and 13 of the top 20 most stressed counties in the nation are right here in California. Only an out-of-touch career politician like Barbara Boxer could witness such a crisis of joblessness and declare victory; it’s clear she’s interested in only one job in California: her own. That’s why I am running to replace her this November.

“Instead, our focus must be on implementing policies that are oriented to support private-sector job growth. That means cutting taxes and cutting through the thicket of regulation that prevents California companies from growing and hiring more employees.”
