FRESNO, CA – In reflection of the broad coalition of support U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina has built from people across California, Fiorina today earned the endorsement of Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims.
“During Barbara Boxer’s 28-year career in Washington, the results she has delivered for Californians have been nothing short of disappointing, and she is out of touch with our needs in the Central Valley. She knows nothing of the real world, the challenges that local officials face daily or what we need to uphold our most basic responsibility: keeping our fellow Californians safe,” said Mims. “Carly, on the other hand, comes from the real world. She has made it her priority to come to the Central Valley to witness firsthand the unique challenges facing our region, and I believe she will be a staunch advocate for us in Washington. That’s why I am pleased to endorse her today.”
Sheriff Mims started her career in law enforcement in 1980, when she was hired as the City of Kerman’s first female police officer. After joining the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office in 1983, Mims became the first female sergeant to supervise field patrol units, the first female lieutenant, the first female captain and the first assistant sheriff in the office’s 150-year history. Mims was elected sheriff in 2006 and is also a member of the California Peace Officers’ Association, the California State Sheriffs’ Association, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
“I have great respect for the good work Sheriff Mims is doing to keep Fresno County residents safe, and I am honored to have her on my campaign team,” said Fiorina. “It will take support from a diverse group of energized Californians who are tired of Washington’s politics-as-usual attitude to replace Barbara Boxer this November. But Californians deserve better representation than what our state’s junior senator has delivered during her 28 years in Washington; that’s why I am running to replace her.”
Mims joins a growing list of Fresno-area officials who have endorsed Fiorina’s campaign to defeat Barbara Boxer, including current Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin, former Fresno Mayor Alan Autry, Fresno County Supervisor Debbie Poochigian and former Secretary of State Bill Jones and Congressman Devin Nunes.
