Carly Fiorina Issues Statement on Passage of Unilateral Sanctions Against Iran

SACRAMENTO, CA – U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina today issued the following statement following Congress’s approval of the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability, and Divestment Act of 2009:

“I applaud Congress for its action today to approve tough, unilateral sanctions against Iran, the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism. My only regret is that it has taken 14 months for this necessary and obvious step to be taken. Today’s vote underscores the consensus that Iran’s acquisition of nuclear weapons capability would threaten the stability of the entire Middle East region and would pose a direct threat against the security of the United States – and that intense pressure must be applied against the regime to persuade it to suspend its nuclear program.

“I urge President Obama to sign this bill into law swiftly. I also call on our leaders in Washington to stand up in support of those in Iran who are pushing for democracy and reform from within so that we can together achieve our ultimate goals: ensuring the country is not making nuclear weapons and stopping it from aiding terrorists.”
