Carly Fiorina Issues Statement on National Unemployment Rate
June 4, 2010

SACRAMENTO, CA – U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina today issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Department of Labor’s report that the economy only added 41,000 private-sector jobs in May:

“Last month’s jobs numbers are very disappointing, especially since private-sector job growth was anemic; instead, growth came in the form of temporary government jobs. This is exactly what job creation will look like if Barbara Boxer continues to have her way – job growth dominated by taxpayer-financed government workers.

“In addition, this report reveals that 6.8 million Americans have devastatingly been unemployed for six months or more. This is a clear indication that the big-government economic stimulus plan championed by Barbara Boxer and her Democratic allies has not worked for these Americans, despite transparent efforts to tout ‘miracle recoveries’ at construction sites. The bottom line is that the hope promised by the stimulus has turned to despair, especially for Californians for whom the unemployment rate is nearly three points higher than the national average.

“If we are serious about job creation, we must start by cutting taxes and reducing regulation on our nation’s job creators: small businesses and entrepreneurs. Barbara Boxer’s priorities have led to higher taxes, huge deficits, protectionism and heavy regulation – a formula for economic stagnation. This is why we must fire and replace her this November.”
