SACRAMENTO, CA – U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina today issued the following statement in response to the release of unemployment figures showing that California has lost the most jobs over the last year and has the third highest unemployment rate in the nation.
“While it is encouraging that California added jobs, all of the job growth comes from temporary government census jobs which are funded by taxpayers. This is no recipe for economic growth and job creation.
“Our state has lost more than 244,000 jobs over the last year – more than any other state in the union. We have the third highest unemployment rate in the country and hundreds of thousands of Californians are facing long-term unemployment. Twenty-one of our counties, mostly in rural California, are facing unemployment over 15 percent. These numbers underscore just how badly Californians have been let down by the $862 billion economic ‘stimulus’ plan Barbara Boxer championed and by government policy that has made it more difficult to create jobs in the private sector.
“If we’re serious about growing our economy and creating jobs, then our focus must be on lowering taxes and eliminating burdensome regulations that inhibit small businesses and entrepreneurs from reaching their fullest potential. It’s clear that Barbara Boxer will not pursue the effective policies that create jobs, and that’s why we must replace her this November.”
