SACRAMENTO, CA – In reflection of the growing local, statewide and national support building behind U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina’s campaign to defeat Barbara Boxer, Fiorina today earned the endorsement of Senator John Thune (R-South Dakota).
“I am proud to endorse Carly Fiorina today because she is a principled leader who will add an important and much-needed real-world perspective to the dialogue in the U.S. Senate, especially in light of our nation’s economic struggles,” said Thune. “Carly is a tough fighter, and she’s the candidate who has what it takes to defeat Barbara Boxer this fall.”
Thune was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2004 after defeating incumbent Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle. Thune currently serves as chairman of the Senate Republican Policy Committee. Prior to joining the Senate, Thune represented South Dakota in the House of Representatives. His career has also included service as executive director of the South Dakota Republican Party, State Railroad Director and executive director of the South Dakota Municipal League.
“Senator Thune knows firsthand how difficult it is to defeat an entrenched Washington insider – as well as what it takes to be successful – and I am grateful for his confidence and support for my campaign to fire Barbara Boxer this November,” said Fiorina. “Over the course of her 34-year political career, Barbara Boxer has forced through an agenda that has led to higher deficits, higher federal debt and higher taxes. She has failed the people she was elected to represent, and I am asking Californians to vote for me because I can defeat her this fall and help take Washington back.”
Fiorina has earned broad-based support for her candidacy from numerous local, state and national leaders, including Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, conservative radio talk show host Dennis Prager and the California Farm Bureau Federation.
