SACRAMENTO, CA – Last night, Senator Boxer’s campaign manager sent an e-mail to Carly Fiorina’s Campaign Manager Marty Wilson requesting to discuss the topic of debates between the two candidates. Today, Mr. Wilson responded with an e-mail accepting the invitation to discuss debates and challenging the three-term incumbent senator to debate Carly Fiorina “early and often.” In addition, he informed the Boxer campaign that Fiorina has named veteran political advisors Ken Khachigian and Beth Miller as her debate negotiators. The full text of Mr. Wilson’s e-mail is below:
Dear Ms. Kapolczynski,
On behalf of Carly Fiorina and her team, I am most appreciative of your taking time to reach out to begin the important discussion about debates. This is an important election for the people of California, and they deserve to learn firsthand from their party’s nominees how they propose to tackle the difficult foreign and domestic challenges that face us as a state and nation.
I am sure you and Senator Boxer will agree that voters will benefit most if they see both candidates in debate formats early and often. To that end, we hereby accept your invitation to begin this discussion so that we can quickly come to an agreement on timing, topics and venues.
You and I both have our hands full in managing our respective campaigns, so I have asked Mr. Ken Khachigian and Ms. Beth Miller to represent our campaign for the purposes of these negotiations. I would suggest that we meet at your earliest convenience.
I look forward to talking with you soon.
Martin R. Wilson
