Carly Fiorina Celebrates Juneteenth at Leimert Park in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, CA – U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina today participated in the Sixth Annual Juneteenth National Freedom Day celebration at Leimert Park in Los Angeles.

“On this day, we celebrate the end of slavery and the beginning of freedom by honoring the struggles, the resilience and the victory of our forefathers. It is now our responsibility to carry on their strength and pass on their resilience to our children and grandchildren,” said Fiorina. “Juneteenth reminds us that we must always continue defending our freedoms, fighting for opportunities and refusing to give up hope.”

Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States when, on June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger led Union soldiers to Galveston, Texas to inform residents that the Civil War had ended and that the slaves had been freed. The Juneteenth celebration at Leimert Park is one of hundreds taking place this weekend across the United States and is one of the largest and oldest celebrations in Los Angeles.
