SACRAMENTO, CA – Carly for California Deputy Campaign Manager for Communications Julie Soderlund today issued the following statement in response to the Capitol Weekly/Probolsky Research tracking poll released this morning that shows U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina leading her nearest Republican primary opponent by 14.5 percentage points, a 27.6-point swing since the last survey released April 22:
“This poll confirms what many recent surveys have already shown: the momentum in this race has swung strongly in Carly Fiorina’s favor. As Republicans have come to know Carly as a true fiscal conservative, seen her laser focus on job creation and economic growth and watched her take the fight to Barbara Boxer, she is earning their support.
“At the same time, voters have seen Tom Campbell’s campaign rationale and strategy crumble. He tried to fool voters into thinking he is a fiscal conservative, but when his record of support for tax increases became known, his numbers fell fast. We expect both of these trends to continue as the primary election quickly approaches.
“The other trend we see in the polls that we expect to continue is Barbara Boxer’s vulnerability. Her 34 years on the public dime have produced more expansive government and higher taxes, and the people of California have clearly had enough. The election this fall will most certainly be an opportunity for voters to better understand and cast judgment on that record, which it seems they already are doing.”
Recent polling, including surveys by USC/Los Angeles Times, KABC/SurveyUSA, Public Policy Polling and Magellan Data and Mapping Strategies, has shown that Fiorina leads her opponents by as much as 23 points. Surveys have also confirmed that Fiorina is within striking distance of Barbara Boxer in a general election matchup.
