Bakersfield City Councilmembers Jacquie Sullivan and Ken Weir Also Endorse Fiorina
BAKERSFIELD, CA – During a press conference in front of the Kern County Office of Administration, U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina today earned the endorsement of Congressman Kevin McCarthy, Bakersfield City Councilwoman Jacquie Sullivan and Bakersfield City Councilman Ken Weir.
“Carly Fiorina has the real-world experience and common-sense approach to politics it will take to bring real change to Washington, and I am proud to endorse her campaign today,” said McCarthy. “Our state desperately needs proven leaders like Carly standing up for us in the U.S. Senate, and I look forward to fighting for California side-by-side with her on Capitol Hill.”
McCarthy is a fourth-generation Kern County resident who was first elected to Congress in 2006. He was re-elected to a second term in 2008. Prior to his election to the House of Representatives, McCarthy was a member of the California State Assembly and served as a Kern County Community College District trustee.
Added Sullivan, “Carly Fiorina shares the concerns and values of Central Valley residents, and she will be a steady advocate for our region as a member of the U.S. Senate. It is a pleasure to announce my support for her candidacy today.”
Sullivan was first elected to the Bakersfield City Council in 1995. She has also served the Republican Party at the local, state and national levels and was a member of the Kern County Republican Central Committee. In addition to her public service, Sullivan has been in the real estate business since 1979 and is a licensed Realtor.
“I’m pleased to endorse today a true fiscal conservative with proven real-world business experience. Carly Fiorina understands firsthand what it takes to create jobs and cut spending, and I have no doubt she’ll be a staunch advocate for us in the U.S. Senate,” Weir said.
Elected to the Council in 2006, Weir currently serves as chairman of the Bakersfield City Council’s Personnel Committee. For more than 25 years, Weir has provided accounting, tax, outsourced controller and management consulting services to businesses and individuals in Central California. He previously was a trustee of the Bakersfield City School District (BCSD), president of the Kern County School Boards Association and president of the BCSD Educational Foundation.
“California’s Central Valley plays a critical role in our state’s economy, and the residents of this region deserve a senator who will put their needs first. For 18 long years, our state – and especially this region – has been poorly served by Barbara Boxer, and it’s clearly time for a change in direction,” said Fiorina. “I am thankful to have the support of Congressman McCarthy, Councilwoman Sullivan and Councilman Weir behind my campaign. They all are great public servants, and I look forward to working with them to restore fiscal responsibility and integrity to Washington.”
Today’s announcement represents the latest in a string of endorsements by distinguished Republicans supporting Fiorina’s campaign for U.S. Senate. Yesterday, Fiorina earned the endorsement of former Alaska Governor and Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin. In March, Assemblywoman Diane Harkey and former Assemblywoman Sharon Runner switched their endorsements to support Fiorina’s candidacy for U.S. Senate.
