California State Assemblymembers Silva, Smyth, Gaines, Logue and Conway Endorse Carly Fiorina for U.S. Senate

SACRAMENTO, CA – California State Assemblymembers Jim Silva (R-Huntington Beach), Cameron Smyth (R-Santa Clarita), Ted Gaines (R-Roseville), Dan Logue (R-Linda) and Connie Conway (R-Visalia) today announced their endorsements of U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina, noting that she is the Republican best positioned to beat Barbara Boxer this November. Silva, Smyth, Gaines, Logue and Conway had previously endorsed Fiorina’s Republican primary opponent, Chuck DeVore.

“Barbara Boxer has overstayed her welcome as California’s U.S. senator, and the people of this state are ready to evict her come November,” said Silva. “Carly Fiorina is a principled leader who has the experience it will take to help get our economy back on track. That’s the reason I am pleased to support her campaign today.”

Silva, a lifelong Orange County resident, was elected to the California State Assembly in 2006. Prior to joining the state Legislature, Silva served on the Orange County Board of Supervisors for three terms and, before that, on the Huntington Beach City Council as both a councilman and as the city’s mayor. In addition, Silva taught high school economics for 28 years and is a licensed real estate broker.

“From defending public safety to restoring fiscal discipline in Washington, Carly Fiorina shares the core values of Republicans across California, and she represents our party’s best opportunity to beat Barbara Boxer this November,” said Smyth. “I know Carly will be a staunch advocate for our state in the U.S. Senate, and I am proud to endorse her today.”

As Republican Caucus Chair, Smyth was the second-highest ranking Republican in the California State Assembly. Born and raised in Santa Clarita, Smyth began his career as a field representative for the California Republican Party. Prior to his election to the Assembly in 2006, Smyth served on the Santa Clarita City Council for six years, including two terms as the city’s mayor.

Added Gaines, “Carly Fiorina is the fiscal and social conservative who can beat Barbara Boxer. From her pro-life views to her commitment to fiscal discipline and responsibility, Carly presents the best contrast to our state’s junior senator, and it’s my pleasure to offer Carly my strongest support.”

Gaines is a small-business owner and a fifth-generation Roseville resident. Prior to joining the Legislature, Gaines served on the Roseville City Planning Commission and on the Placer County Board of Supervisors. He was elected to the California State Assembly in 2006.

“Carly Fiorina is a true fiscal conservative who will support and protect our state’s small businesses and family-owned businesses as a member of the U.S. Senate,” Logue said. “She has signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, and she will make the tough decisions necessary to cut taxes, reduce federal spending and grow our economy.”

Logue was elected to the Assembly in 2008 following six years of service as a member of the Yuba County Board of Supervisors. A former small-business owner, Logue currently serves as vice chairman of the Assembly Committee on Jobs, Economic Development and the Economy. He also helped organize the Legislature’s Business Roundtable in an effort to improve the state’s business climate.

Conway said, “Carly Fiorina understands the tremendous influence the decisions made by the U.S. Senate have on cities, counties and states across the nation, and I believe her real-world experience provides her a unique perspective on the issues that matter most to our fellow Californians. She will be a terrific representative for our golden state in Washington, and I am pleased to announce my support of her campaign today.”

Prior to being elected to the Assembly in 2008, Conway was a Tulare County Supervisor for eight years and served as chair of the Board of Supervisors. She has also served as chairwoman of the California Partnership for the San Joaquin Valley, president of the California State Association of Counties, director of the National Association of Counties and state president of the Cities, Counties and Schools Partnership. Conway is currently chair of the Assembly Republican Caucus.

“I am honored to have earned the support of these dedicated public servants who share my commitment to restoring fiscal responsibility and integrity to Washington by firing Barbara Boxer this November,” added Fiorina. “Their endorsements further underscore the fact that I am the conservative candidate who can beat Boxer, and their backing exemplifies the tremendous momentum building behind my campaign. They are welcome additions to my campaign team, and I look forward to working with them to continue building support heading into the final weeks before Election Day.”

In March, Assemblywoman Diane Harkey and former Assemblywoman Sharon Runner switched their endorsements from DeVore to back Fiorina’s campaign for U.S. Senate. In just the last week, Fiorina has also earned the support of former Alaska Governor and Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin, the National Right to Life Committee, New Majority California and Congressman Kevin McCarthy, among many others.
