SACRAMENTO, CA – U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina today launched the Carly for California Team to raise funds for the Susan G. Komen 2010 Sacramento Race for the Cure on May 8. The 5k run/walk takes place at Cal Expo in Sacramento and is open to people of all ages.
“Last February, I received the devastating news that I had breast cancer. But thanks to improved early detection and life-saving medical advances championed and supported by organizations like Komen for the Cure, I am now among the United States’ 2.5 million breast cancer survivors,” said Fiorina. “During my battle with cancer, I was touched by the kindness of many strangers and inspired by the stories of those who have survived and rededicated themselves to a meaningful life after cancer. Today, I’m grateful to have the opportunity to pay that inspiration and kindness forward by launching a team to participate in the Susan G. Komen 2010 Sacramento Race for the Cure. I look forward to seeing everyone on race day!”
Susan G. Komen for the Cure was founded in 1982 by Nancy Brinker in fulfillment of her promise to her sister, Susan, that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. Today, Komen for the Cure boasts a network of more than 100,000 volunteers, survivors and activists in 125 countries around the world fighting together to find a cure for breast cancer, improve the quality of patient care and save lives. Through events like the Sacramento Race for the Cure, Komen for the Cure has invested nearly $1 billion to that mission. In the Sacramento Valley region alone, the foundation has awarded grants totaling more than $6.8 million to fund innovative local outreach and awareness programs for medically underserved communities.
