SACRAMENTO, CA – U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina today announced her support for Chelsea’s Law, a measure designed to protect children and teens from violent sexual predators.
“Government’s first and foremost responsibility is to protect the safety and security of our fellow Americans. This is especially true when it comes to protecting our children, and that’s the reason I’m proud to support Chelsea’s Law,” said Fiorina. “It’s critically important that we do everything in our power to prevent violent criminals from preying on our children. Chelsea’s Law represents an important step in the right direction, and I urge the Legislature to pass it quickly.”
Chelsea’s Law, the detailed provisions of which were unveiled yesterday by Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher, will help protect children from sex offenders by increasing penalties for sex crimes against children, extending the time period during which sex offenders must remain on parole with GPS monitoring and establishing “safe zones” to limit where sex offenders can spend their time. The measure is named in memory of Chelsea King, a Poway high school student who was raped and murdered in February by a convicted sex offender who had blatantly violated the terms of his parole and whose files had been partially destroyed by parole officials.
