Carly Fiorina Signs Club For Growth’s Repeal It Pledge

SACRAMENTO, CA – Following the House of Representatives vote to pass the health care bill last night, U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina today signed the Club for Growth’s Repeal It pledge. In signing the pledge, Fiorina committed to sponsoring and supporting legislation to repeal the government takeover of health care and instead institute reforms that actually lower health care costs without growing government.

“The health care overhaul passed by the House of Representatives last night is a costly, bad deal for Americans. While I do recognize the need to bring reforms to our nation’s health care system that improve the quality of patient care and reduce costs, this bill does none of those things. Instead, it raises health care premiums by 10 to 13 percent, increases taxes by more than half a trillion dollars, puts our nation deeper into debt and creates new barriers to job creation and economic growth by our nation’s small businesses and entrepreneurs,” said Fiorina. “If I am fortunate enough to be hired to represent California in the U.S. Senate, I will do everything in my power to repeal this government takeover and replace it with specific health care reforms that we know from experience work and that have bipartisan support.”

The Club for Growth promotes public policies that encourage economic growth and prosperity by returning to our nation’s founding principles of limited government and economic freedom. The Repeal It campaign engages conservative, pro-growth citizens, lawmakers and candidates in the effort to defeat the federal government’s takeover of our nation’s health care system and replace it with reforms that will actually lower costs.

Fiorina has consistently called for health care reform legislation that focuses first and foremost on keeping decisions about care between doctors and patients. Any reform measure should build on ideas that we know from experience work, such as:

  • Building on programs that provide incentives for receiving preventative care and for healthy lifestyles.
  • Reforming malpractice on a national level as has been done in California.
  • Providing greater access to lower-cost community-based primary care clinics.
  • Encouraging more transparency about pricing and quality of health care services.
  • Allowing consumers to purchase any health plan from anywhere in the country.
  • Creating more market-based competition for everything from health insurance to prescription drugs.
