SACRAMENTO, CA – U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina today issued the following statement regarding America’s relationship with Israel and Tom Campbell’s record with regard to these matters:
“The state of Israel is a key strategic and democratic ally in the Middle East. The peace process is stalled despite Israel’s unprecedented concessions. Hamas and Hezbollah continue to attack Israel and destabilize the region. And an increasingly defiant Iran continues to suppress its own people, expand its nuclear program and call for the destruction of Israel. Iran has rejected every opportunity to find a diplomatic solution to the standoff over its nuclear program. At the same time, Syria and Iran last week committed themselves jointly to the ‘demise and annihilation’ of Israel, just as the Obama Administration has unfortunately agreed to send a U.S. ambassador to Syria for the first time in five years.
“U.S. senators play a crucial role in U.S.-Middle East policy. They vote on sanctions, aid levels and ambassadorial nominees, among many other weighty matters. Given these facts, it is vital that the voters of California understand where their Senate candidates stand on critical Middle East issues.
“It is in this context that I call once again on Tom Campbell to explain his previous statements and record on the State of Israel, U.S. aid to Israel and his associations with sympathizers of radical Islamic movements. As a start, he should release the letter of recommendation he wrote for admitted terrorism supporter Sami Al-Arian and disclose the name of the Georgetown professor who asked him to write it. Then he should explain why he voted against aid to Israel, why he opposed recognizing Jerusalem as the Israeli capital and why he accepted contributions from groups that have been linked to radical Islamic extremists.”
