SACRAMENTO, CA – U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina today issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Senate’s passage of the HIRE Act, the $15 billion jobs package:
“Today’s vote represents yet another missed opportunity to pass a real jobs bill that cuts taxes or institutes a real suspension of the payroll tax – either of which would free up small businesses to hire people. Instead, the Senate opted to pass what amounts to nothing more than an expensive extension of the failed stimulus plan.
“Barbara Boxer has spent a lot of time touting the transportation dollars this legislation will get flowing. Of course she fails to mention that it’s nothing but a temporary, costly Band-aid designed to win votes and headlines, not to fundamentally address the problem. What we need is a full reauthorization of the Highway Trust Fund, with some spending controls – which Boxer has failed to achieve thus far.
“The bottom line is that this bill’s main purpose is political, not practical – and it comes at taxpayers’ expense as we watch our national debt and unemployment rates climb higher and higher. It’s no wonder Americans are so tired of professional politicians and the games they play in Washington.”
