Sacramento, CA – Carly for California Campaign Manager Marty Wilson today issued the following statement regarding the recent Rasmussen Report survey showing U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina gaining momentum in the race to unseat Barbara Boxer:
“Today’s Rasmussen Report further confirms that Carly Fiorina is the Republican candidate best-positioned to defeat Barbara Boxer in the fall. In a head-to-head match-up with Boxer, Carly now trails the three-term incumbent by three points – a statistical tie and a margin smaller than any other Republican primary candidate,” said Wilson. “The poll further underscores voters’ dissatisfaction with Boxer’s failed tenure in the U.S. Senate, given her consistent inability to reach the 50 percent threshold.”
The survey of likely voters conducted January 14 shows that Fiorina has made great progress in the first 60 days of her campaign and begun to connect with voters and that has shrunk Boxer’s lead to three points from nine points since the last poll. Conversely, Boxer has been in Washington taking high profile positions on unpopular issues such as the overhaul of the country’s health care system. Boxer has been stuck at 46 percent in the last two Rasmussen polls. Incumbents with less than 50 percent support for their reelection are generally considered vulnerable.
“It’s no surprise, that after announcing her candidacy in November and campaigning non-stop ever since, Carly’s polling numbers reflect positive movement. It’s clear that Carly’s campaign message of rebuilding our economy, smaller government and reining in out-of-control spending is resonating with California voters,” Wilson continued. “Carly looks forward to connecting with voters and continuing to share her vision for California’s future as she travels the state in the months to come.”
