Sacramento, CA – U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina today issued the following statement regarding reports that President Obama, alongside congressional Democrats, will propose a freeze on federal discretionary spending tomorrow in his State of the Union address:
“A proposal to curtail a few billion dollars in spending, while still running a deficit in excess of $1 trillion, isn’t a solution – it’s an attempt to put a political window dressing on what is otherwise a failed record when it comes to budgetary and economic policy.
“With Barbara Boxer’s support and under the President’s leadership, our nation’s debt has grown more than $1 trillion this year alone. Next year, our nation’s budget deficit is expected to be up to $1.3 trillion.
“Instead of growing our debt, what Washington should be doing in these tough times is what most families and businesses do when things get tight: reduce spending and pay down debt. It’s time for Barbara Boxer and her colleagues to do their job, and that might mean adding a new word to their political vocabulary: No.”
While she is perhaps best known as the former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Hewlett-Packard Company (HP), what is not as well known is Carly worked her way through undergraduate and graduate school. A self-made woman, she started her business career as a secretary and went on to become the first, and to date, the only woman to lead a Fortune 20 company. Click here to read more about Carly.
